Island Lake history

Island lake is a spring-fed body of water formed when the last glacial advance halted about 10,000 years ago. As the mile thick ice sheet retreated north up Hood Canal, depressions carved by the ice, filled with meltwater.

The lake covers an area of 103 acres with a maximum depth of 34 feet. Lake levels go through a 5-foot range.

The lake attracts many migratory bird species including Canada Geese, Grebe's, and nesting residents of Osprey's and Bald Eagles. Beaver and otter call the lake home.
